I can't get Nero 7 Cover Designer to lightscribe a background image at all. But I can get Nero 7 Cover Designer to lightscribe text without any problems. When writing the image, it process the image fine 0% to 100% no errors.
The print step lasts about 2 seconds and then reports the printing completed successfully. The disk pops out with nothing on it. I've used the preview window, before printing, and all looks well in it.
And yes the media is inserted properly in the drive. It's as if Nero doesn't see the background image, but does see the text. I've updated everything possible I believe, with no success. This is my first attempt at using the lightscribe feature. I've seen other threads were Nero doesn't recognize a drive.
Mine is recognized, and the lightscribe functions are all active. Like I said, I did get text to work. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Is anyone else having this problem? Maybe I'm missing the obvious. System settings are as follows: Windows XP Pro Nero Burning ROM v 7.7.5.1 Nero Cover Designer v 2.7.3.0 CD/DVD Drive = BenQ DW1655 with Firmware BCDB also tried newer BCIB Media = Verbatim Lightscribe DVD+R LightScribe System Software = v 1.4.142.1. There is a confirmed bug in the Nero software which is unrelated to the LSS version installed. From the Nero 8.1.1.4 Changelog: Nero CoverDesigner 3.1.1.1 - Changes/Bugfixes Nero CoverDesigner did not always burn pictures to a LightScribe disc. When burning a picture to a LightScribe disc in Nero CoverDesigner, the 'preparing print progress' bar quickly moved to 30%, then the printing progress finished with the message 'Print progress completed successfully'. However, in some cases nothing had been printed/burned to the disc. This problem has been fixed in version 8. Although Nero is generally good at keeping older versions up-to-date, in this instance they do not seem concerned about fixing the previous version.
My name is Brian and i'm new to the forum. I found this thread after i googled some stuff and now here i am. I'm having the same problems as stated above. I'm attempting to burn an image onto a disc, and my problem is the exact same as the thread starter explained. I took the advice given about reinstalling the latest lightscribe sytem software but still no results. This is the first time i've ever messed with lightscribe so i got impatient and decided to print regular text, whiched worked just fine. Any suggestions?
Links would be wonderful, along with step by step instructions on what to do when i go to the links would be awesome. I'm using a Liteon burner and Nero 7. Thanks Brian. Hi Everyone I'm new to the forum. I was googling as I had a problem with lightscribe and Nero 7 Essentials with my LG DRD Ram Drive.
Here are the steps I took to fix it. Went to downloaded their diagnostics software.
Although the diagnostics said everything was fine I reinstalled the lasest lightscribe drivers. Once that was done I then used Nero 7's autoupdate feature to download all the latest fixes. Finally I tried again to create a Label with a background image in Nero Cover Designer. (I even used one of Vista's Desktops - and SUCCESS!! Hope this Helps anyone else having problems out there!
The Nero 7 Retail bundles, be it Premium or Ultra Edition, do include support for the LightScribe feature when you have a LightScribe drive installed. It is preferable that you install Nero 7 with a LightScribe drive already connected, though the feature should be there regardless, and just not show up till you connect the drive.
But in some cases, you will need to make sure you have the latest LightScribe API to ensure full or proper support for the drive. You can obtain the latest version, which should be version 1.6.43.1, and you can use the below link to download this version if you have not already. Ok, I just got my dvd writer and the software included was nero 7 essentials and I burned a disc and afterwards i flipped it over to lightscribe an image that i had. However when i clicked on the print lightscribe button it pops up with the window giving me an option to print it so i printed it using the best quaility and after clicked print a box came up saying preparing the cd for printing and it went through then it said 100 percent printed and spit my cd out but nothing was printing. Now does anyone know what im doing wrong why wont it print ive updated all my drivers too.
Now im using memorex dvd+r w/lightscribe and my dvd writer has lightscribe on it too. Thanks in advance Buffer Underrun Posts: 2 Joined: Sat Dec 15, 2007 1:39 pm. This is my first time posting. I had the same problem as many others trying to create a lightscribe label using Nero CoverDesigner application. It would look like the process was starting but within a few seconds the application would show a window that the print was successful and the lightscribe media dvd would be ejected but no image. I tried many suggestions I found on the web including: Updating firmware to my Samsung SH-S182M DVD, Uninstalling Nero 7 Ultra Edition, Installing Nero 7 Essentials that came with the DVD, Reinstalling Nero 7 Ultra Edition. All with the same failure.
Finally I tried the LS Simple Labeler from the lightscribe.com site and was able to print some simple text on the Memorex Lightscribe DVD+R disc. Feeling brave I then tried the LS Template Labeler and used the blank template and inserted an image and that worked as well. Therefore, I would suggest trying these free apps to see how it works. I've had nothing but problems trying to go with Nero and LS options. I ended up using SureThing but Acoustica's also works well. Both of those programs have worked flawlessly. In the case of a SH-S203N, I had to wait until the window popped up saying 'insert disc to print' so that the drive didn't spin up and not stop spinning and then never actually print anything. Its almost like the drive wants to do something with the disc and you have to interupt it with instruction before it goes screwy. Tried firmware updates, reinstalling software etc etc, just gotta drop it in when it says print and skip Nero's. SureThing is only $20 I think, so its not a bad option.

Whether your purchase a new computer with a CD or DVD burner or simply purchase a separate burner to upgrade your system with, chances some basic burning software came along with it. Windows XP itself even includes a very built-in extension that allows you to burn information to a CD or DVD.
The problem with all of these tools is that they get the job done, but don't give you a lot of flexibility. They perform basic tasks that allow you to create CDs and DVDs, but they don't do a whole lot more. In this article, I'll show you how you can use Nero 7 Ultra Edition to get more power out of your burner. What's Nero 7 Ultra Edition? Among the more popular bundled burning tools, you may have run into Nero Express. Along with Easy CD-Creator from Roxio and LiteOn SmartBurn, Nero is one of the more popular burning programs on the market. Nero 7 Ultra Edition does everything that Nero Express does and more.
Through Ultra Edition, Nero hopes to make Nero 7 the center of your digital world. Whether it's creating, editing or sharing data, Nero 7 Ultra Edition includes something that can fill those needs. Nero 7 Ultra Edition will run on all versions of Windows after Windows 98 as long as you have sufficient system resources. Nero 7 installs just like any other Windows program you've ever used. When you put the program CD in the drive, it will launch the installer with a wizard that will walk you through the entire installation process. There are no major gotchas to worry about. The hardest part to the entire installation is making sure you type in the serial number properly.
When you restart your system after the installation, you can then start using the program. You'll notice two new icons on your desktop - Nero StartSmart and Nero Home. If you click Nero Home, you'll see the screen shown in Figure A. Figure A Nero Home gives you an easy way to launch programs. Nero Home takes over the GUI of your computer and gives you a simple spinning graphic that allows you to access needed programs.
When you click a given icon, it rotates to the front and will allow you to bring up submenus. For example, if you want to see your files, you click double click the graphical file list.
Nero 7 Essentials Update
You'll then see the My Collections screen shown in Figure B. From there you access sub-tasks. Figure B You can view programs inside of each icon. To close Nero Home, just press AltF4. You'll probably use StartSmart more often.
When you double-click the Smart Start icon, you'll see the screen shown in Figure C. Figure C StartSmart makes it easy to perform basic tasks. The icons make it easy to figure out which task you want to perform. You can put the things you want to do most on the Favorites list and thereby save a little clicking.
Burning CDs Burning a CD is simple, click the Make A Data CD link. You'll then see the screen shown in Figure D. Figure D You'll create new CDs here. Click the Add button and then find the files you want to burn to CD.
Nero will add them to the list on this screen and display graphically on the bottom how much disk space you've used. Once you've selected all the files, click Next. You'll then see the screen shown in Figure E. Figure E Click Burn. You can change any of the settings on this screen that you want, but the easiest thing to do is just click Burn. Nero will burn the disk for you and you're done! The time it takes to burn depends on the speed you have your burner set.
This is the same basic method that you can burn DVDs as well. All that and more Nero 7 Ultra Edition does all of that and more. For example, you can use it to set up backup routines for your network or individual workstations. We'll cover how to do that in another article. Related Topics.
Hello: I have a Sony Lightscribe external DVD burner that came bundled with Nero 7 Essentials. I have used the burner to burn CDs and DVDs for a couple of years now but never used it to make 'Lightscribe' CDs and DVDs. A few days ago I purchased some Lightscribe CDs and DVDs and am now ready to start making them. I know that to burn Lightscribe DVDs, you need a software (such as Nero 7 Essentials) that is capable of burning the image onto the CD/DVD. The problem I am having is with the install of Nero 7 Essentials.

Nero Startsmart Essentials Download
When you try to install it, it first takes you to a web based newsletter registration page where it asks you to put in your email address. But after you do this, it takes you to another web page screen which does NOT allow you to run the setup for the installation! I have tried every possible method to try and bypass this, trying to run setup from the Start bar, trying to open and 'browse' the CD and run the setup executable that way, etc., etc.
Has anyone else encountered the same problem, and if so, how did you bypass it? I know that when I first got the burner and the software, I ran into the same problem but eventually found a way around it (but it was so long ago I can't recall what that was). I ended up uninstalling it because I no longer use Nero to burn CDs/DVDs, so I installed Nero 6 instead (because it took up less space). And I doubt Nero 7 Essentials is not installing because of a conflict with Nero 6 aready being installed because I can't even GET to the install process with Nero 7.
Or perhaps there is a freeware out there that can make Lightscribe CDs/DVDs? Any other advice on how to burn a Lightscribe CD/DVD would be appreciated!
Does anyone know if/when Lightscribe will ever be able to burn in color and if so, would an upgraded DVD burner be needed? Nero 6 is capable of Lightscribe disks providing its later than a certain revision and it's probably the 'best' version of Nero ever going considering Nero 7 became fat, Nero 8 fatter still and Nero 9 is so fat it's clinically obese. It is a tragedy that Nero 6 doesn't work on Vista or Windows 7. There are issues that can occur when you have multiple copies of Nero on a machine so you are strongly advised to either have Nero 6 or 7. Preferably not both. Uninstall one and reboot before you install the other. The last Nero 6 update from Nero's website DOES do lightscribe subject of course to appropriate hardware and the Lightscribe system software available here: There is 3rd party software for Lightscribe, see here: With regards to colour lightscribe sketches, in theory it is possible, HP have said they're working on it (and that was the end of the matter since it was announced in 2006) and a handful of drives can do it.
Lightscribe disks in different background colours are available.
I recently purchased a Memorex DVD multi-format recorder with the ability to print LightScribe labels. The software that came with the recorder is Nero Essentials 7 (supported only by Memorex). First off: the recorder does not 'Copy Entire DVD' of most of my finalized DVDs. And it doesn't tell me 'why'. The 'copy it' option is grayed out.
Then, after finally getting the recorder to copy one of my finalized DVDs, I tried using the LightScribe option (the MAIN reason I purchased this recorder) and after working very hard at creating the disk image and looking at the 'preview', I click 'Print LightScribe Label' and after about 10 seconds it says 'printing successful' and spits out the DVD with NO label. Or, better yet, any recommendations for a different LightScribe burner and/or software?
No, I'm not trying to copy Copy protected commercial DVDs. All the DVDs I'm trying to duplicate are -+RW or -+R 'finalized' DVDs and they are my personal collection. The challenge is: 'some WILL and some WON'T.
And it doesn't tell me why. In regards to the LightScribe labeling software. But the NERO software that comes with the Memorex is only supported by Memorex because it's an earlier version (7) and since the latest version is 9, Nero won't support it. And while I'm on the subject: Nero will support their latest version (9) if you call them at $1.29 per min.
Beginning when a representative comes on the line. Thanks VERY MUCH for responding.
Happy New Year! I'm using LightScribe HP DVD+R DVD media. LightScribe software, LightScribe Template Labeler, works fine. It's the Nero 7 software that won't create labels (at least not yet).
After I create the label using Nero's software, Nero Cover Designer, and click Print LightScribe Label. I get an instant 40% complete and seconds later it says 'Printed Label Successfully!'
But, it didn't. I've spoken with Memorex tech support about this, several times, and they're not sure why the recorder/software duplicates DVDs only now and then. And why the Nero Cover Designer doesn't work. They suggested I take the recorder back and get another one. This is my 2nd recorder.
